Join me in this episode as I discuss the very popular Eric Hoffer book The True Believer.  I use a lot of quotations from the book and apply them to many of the situations we find ourselves faced with in modern times.  The True Believer was published in 1951 and is an often recommended work in the realm of mass-movement social psycology.  It’s very accessible compared to most other works on the subject, and that, along with it’s popularity among several historical figures, gives it a place on the top shelf of pop-culture sociology books.  I enjoyed reading it, and I think some of the lessons it offers are very applicable to today’s movements.  I don’t go along with everything Hoffer claims, but even he would say that’s a good thing.

I know it has been a while since the last podcast, but there are some legitimate reasons for that and I briefly discuss everything that has happened at the top of the show.  The next episode of the podcast will be the Part 2/conclusion of my thoughts on The True Believer.  After that I have some discussions planned with some guests, I’ll go over another film, and then I’ll dive into Dr. Jordan Peterson’s new book 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos, which I’m super excited to read.
